Blessing God's Way
Blessing God's Way is a unique, yet scripturally based, concept of how we, women, journey through three 'branches' of life: Maidenhood, Maternity and Menopause. The branch of Maternity isthe season of the woman entering, in the process of, or after the childbearing cycle. It is also in Maternity where an expecting mother can experience a Celebration of Pregnancy that is God-centered and God-honoring. This would be an alternative to a baby shower. Rather than giving the expecting mother another blanket or burp cloth, you would be able to bless her with words of encouragement to empower her and affirm her. With God in mind, you are can shower the woman with prayer, bathe her in scriptural support, give words of strength & hope with poems and/or music, offer a soothing massage, and even create a physical display such as a candle or bracelet for when labor is welcomed.
I have not only had the privilege to attend Blessing God's Ways, but have had the honor of hosting a couple with friends. This is where community is vital to a woman when childbirth is nearing and her support system needs to be strong. This outpouring of love demonstrates God's intention for community & celebrates His design in which we can embrace our bodies and our babies with freedom. I find that during these Celebrations that it is not just the expecting mother who receives assurance & blessings, but clearly the women who surround her as well.
I would encourage anyone interested to go to the Blessing God's Way website. Traditional baby showers are fun & can be practical. But there is nothing like having those sisters closest to you encouraging you, affirming you all in the name of Jesus.
